Most Sony products to be networked?
03 July 2008

Sony plans to make 90 per cent of its products networkable by 2010, according to reports from a meeting between Sony's president of consumer sales Stan Glasgow and journalists in San Francisco.

Online technology magazine The Register said the company wanted to see its devices able to exchange content at the press of a button or even automatically.

In January, Sony unveiled its own TransferJet ultra-wideband technology to compete with global standards Wireless USB and WiMedia.

Although it was not clear from the meeting that the company was thinking of using TransferJet for its networkable products, The Register pointed out that at the launch of its ultra-wideband standard Sony said products would be available by the middle of 2009.

With TransferJet the equipment cannot be more than 3cm apart, but bandwidth is 560Mb/sec with very low power consumption.
