| Even more colours from Sony | |
| 05 June 2008 SONY claims that its Bravia W4000-Series combines exquisite image quality with simple new cabinet styling that will complement any décor. Picture quality has been enhanced by using 10-bit signal processing and a 10-bit LCD panel, which yield 1024 shades of gradation between colours compared with the 256 available from normal 8-bit panels. “That’s 64 times as many colours, meaning a huge step closer to the subtle tones of real life,” the company said. “The screens also use a wide colour gamut cold cathode fluorescent lamp, which boosts the backlight spectrum beyond the limits of CCFLs, adding a further level of realism.” Another highlight of the W4000-Series is Picture Frame Mode, which displays still high definition images when the TV is not in use. Consumers can display their own favourite photos using the USB Photoviewer or use the six pre-installed pictures, which range from ‘pop art’ to Van Gogh. And they apparently needn’t worry about wasting energy as Picture Frame Mode is claimed to use 35 per cent less power than TV viewing. However, like all Bravia TVs, the W4000-Series is designed to be very energy-efficient, with an ‘auto shut-off’ function that automatically places the TV in standby mode when there is no input signal or after a period of inactivity. Screens are available in 32in, 40in, 46in, and 52in sizes.
